Cupric acetate (or Copper II acetate) is a greenish-blue, fine powder. Soluble in water, alcohol and ether. It has a slight acetic acid (vinegar) odor.

Applications...

  • Wood preservation: Cupric acetate is used as a wood preservative to prevent rot and decay. It is also used to treat wood that is in contact with water, such as boat docks and piers.
  • Textile dyeing: Cupric acetate is used as a mordant to help fix dyes to fabric. It is also used to produce a blue-green dye.
  • Electroplating: Cupric acetate is used in electroplating to deposit a thin layer of copper onto other metals. This is used to protect the metal from corrosion and to give it a decorative finish.
  • Patination: Cupric acetate is one of the most common chemicals used to patina a metal surface and create beautiful pieces of art. It can be used to create a variety of colors, including green, blue, and black.
